Overview
We are seeking an experienced Fractional Controller to provide hands-on financial leadership for our growing custom fabrication and industrial construction business. This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Controller, Accounting Manager, or retired CFO who enjoys working with small businesses and wants the flexibility of a part-time schedule.
Although we are a small company, our operations are complex and include union labor, manufacturing, project costing, and industrial field services. We are seeking someone who can serve as a trusted financial advisor while remaining involved in the day-to-day accounting functions of the business.

Position Summary
The Fractional Controller will work closely with company leadership and accounting personnel to oversee the financial health of the organization. This individual will be responsible for month-end close activities, financial reporting, cash flow analysis, and providing management with timely and accurate information to support operational and strategic decisions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the monthly and year-end close process.
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and key performance indicators.
- Attend weekly cash flow meetings with company leadership.
- Monitor cash flow and provide recommendations to improve financial performance.
- Work collaboratively with Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Job Costing personnel.
- Review labor costs, overhead allocation, and project profitability.
- Assist with annual budgeting and forecasting.
- Develop and maintain financial reports and dashboards.
- Support management with strategic financial analysis and decision-making.
- Ensure accounting records and internal controls are maintained in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Coordinate with external CPA firms regarding tax preparation and year-end reporting.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, and overall business performance.
Qualifications
- Minimum of five years of experience as a Controller, Accounting Manager, CFO, or similar financial leadership position.
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, and cash flow management.
- Experience with month-end close and financial statement preparation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems.
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Manufacturing accounting experience.
- Construction or project-based accounting experience.
- Union payroll and union fringe benefit experience.
- Job costing experience.
- Experience supporting small businesses or closely held companies.
- Knowledge of labor burden and project profitability analysis.
