About Waly Market

Waly Market is a delivery marketplace platform launching in New York City, connecting customers with restaurants, grocery stores, international markets, and retail stores. Deliveries are performed by independent contractor drivers. We are a founder-owned startup preparing for launch, and we are hiring an attorney on a contract basis to get our legal foundation right before we go live.

What you will do

• Draft the operating agreement for a multi-member LLC with equal ownership
• Draft and review our independent contractor agreement for delivery drivers, with strong attention to New York worker classification law
• Review our customer-facing legal documents (Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Refund Policy, Community Guidelines, Prohibited Items) for a marketplace operating in NYC
• Review our store partnership agreement, including compliance with NYC third-party food delivery fee caps
• Advise on NYC licensing for third-party food delivery services and related DCWP requirements, including delivery worker minimum pay compliance
• Advise on NY SHIELD Act data security obligations
• Flag what changes as we expand to additional states (NJ, WA, DC, MD, VA, GA, OH)

Requirements

• Licensed to practice law in New York and in good standing
• Experience with startups, marketplaces, or gig economy platforms
• Experience drafting independent contractor agreements in worker-classification-sensitive industries
• Clear, practical communication with a small founding team
• Responsive, with turnaround times you commit to upfront

Nice to have

• Direct experience with delivery platforms or NYC DCWP matters
• Experience advising multi-state consumer platforms

Engagement details

• Contract engagement, project-based to start, with ongoing advisory work as we grow
• Remote-friendly; no residency requirement, New York bar required
• Flat-fee proposals for the defined scope are welcome and preferred
