Fractional Controller Contract

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Fractional Controller to lead financial operations and ensure the integrity of financial reporting for our organization. This dynamic role offers the opportunity to manage accounting functions, oversee compliance with regulatory standards, and provide strategic financial insights. As a key member of our finance team, you will drive efficiency in financial processes, support budgeting and forecasting activities, and ensure adherence to GAAP, IFRS, and other relevant accounting standards. This position is ideal for an experienced accounting professional looking to make a significant impact across multiple projects on a flexible, part-time basis.

Duties

• Oversee all aspects of financial accounting, including general ledger management, balance sheet reconciliation, accounts payable and receivable, and month-end closing processes.
• Lead the preparation of accurate financial reports, including income statements, cash flow statements, and regulatory filings in compliance with GAAP, IFRS, and governmental accounting standards.
• Manage internal controls related to SOX compliance and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements across all financial activities.
• Conduct detailed cost accounting analysis and support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning efforts.
• Implement and optimize accounting systems such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, and other financial software to streamline operations and improve data analysis capabilities.
• Perform cash management duties including treasury management, cash flow forecasting, and accounts reconciliation to maintain optimal liquidity levels.
• Supervise managing accounting teams or external consultants as needed to ensure timely completion of financial close processing and accurate financial reporting.
• Support technical accounting issues such as revenue recognition under IFRS or GAAP standards and complex regulatory compliance reporting for nonprofit or governmental entities.
• Facilitate international accounting practices where applicable, ensuring compliance with local regulations and standards.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Controller or senior accounting leader with expertise in corporate finance management.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act), and regulatory compliance accounting.
• Demonstrated proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or similar platforms; advanced Excel data analysis skills are essential.
• Extensive background in nonprofit or governmental accounting environments preferred.
• Ability to perform detailed account reconciliation, balance sheet analysis, and account analysis efficiently.
• Excellent understanding of technical accounting concepts including double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, financial concepts related to cost analysis and forecasting.
• Experience managing finance teams or external consultants in a fast-paced environment with strong organizational skills.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to write clear financial reports and present complex information effectively.
• Familiarity with international accounting practices is a plus; willingness to adapt to various regulatory frameworks is essential.
