Our client is searching for a seasoned fractional CTO/Head of Software advisor to lead a full-scope technology assessment and build a strategic five-year roadmap in preparation for a private equity exit. The company is simultaneously targeting a 2x growth trajectory, making the stakes of getting the technology foundation right extremely high.
This is not a maintenance role. The right person will arrive with a sharp point of view, move fast, and be unafraid to tell leadership what they need to hear.
What You’ll Do
Immediate Priorities (Month 1 — Full Engagement)
- Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the current software environment, technology stack, and systems architecture
- Review and evaluate asset management systems and accounting/ERP platforms for scalability and PE-readiness
- Identify critical gaps, technical debt, and integration risks that could impact valuation or due diligence
- Deliver initial findings to leadership ahead of the September board meeting
Ongoing Advisory (Months 2+)
- Develop and steward a 5-year technology roadmap aligned to the PE exit timeline and growth targets
- Lead ERP and accounting software selection and implementation planning
- Drive AI/ML and predictive analytics strategy — identify high-value use cases relevant to power generation and asset management
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the executive team on all technology decisions with an eye toward long-term enterprise value
- Interface with and provide direction across the software, asset management, and finance functions
Must-Have Qualifications
- Deep, hands-on experience in the Independent Power Producer (IPP) or broader power generation space — this is non-negotiable
- 5+ years in technology consulting or fractional CTO/advisory engagements
- Demonstrated experience conducting software stack assessments and delivering actionable recommendations
- Working knowledge of ERP and accounting systems in asset-heavy environments
- Familiarity with asset management platforms used in power generation or energy infrastructure
- Exposure to predictive analytics and AI/ML — practical, not just theoretical
- Track record advising leadership teams in preparation for capital events (PE, M&A, recapitalization, or similar)
